Yesterday we visited the ‘Celebrating Indonesia Through Textiles’ exhibition, which coincides with the Indonesian 72nd anniversary of Independence August 17. Red & White for the colors of the Indonesian flag, with red symbolizing bravery & blood & white purity & bone. The exhibits includes quilts, embroidery, lace, beadwork, crochet, shibori, weaving, and, of course, gorgeous Indonesian batiks. The museum is fabulous- lots of room and beautifully laid out. They also had workshops and an artists’ bazaar where they had handcrafted items for sale. I was lucky to meet quite a few artists (and buy some lovely materials from a few).
