The enormous bull-kelp along the Pacific coast attaches deep within the ocean, but always strives towards the light above. As a former scuba diver, I loved these incredible kelp forests. The contrast between the dense machine stitch and speckling of hand stitches manipulates the fabric to create waves and ripples, as if underwater.
Shown in the Rio & Sao Paulo Patchwork & Design Festival 2014, as well as nationally in U.S.
Hand-dyed 100% cotton whole cloth quilt with freehand machine thread painting and hand stitching.
